Recently, The Mantaray Marina shared a look inside the project, speaking about the vision behind it and where things stand today.

Now open and operating, berth holders and residents prepare for the next exciting milestone for the project, when The Mantaray Club will make its journey down the Broadwater and connect to the Marina later this year.

Over the coming weeks, the marina is handing over to the people who know it best: the berth holders, brokers and industry figures who have seen it come together. First up are two of them: Tim Gordon, the developer behind it, and Rod Leech, one of the first to move his boat here.

Why The Spit, and what it took to deliver

A marina of this scale on The Spit began with a tender process with the state government, and nothing quite like it had been attempted in Australia before. Tim Gordon talks through the demand that made the case for it, the dredging of the Broadwater that made it possible, and the decision to build for vessels this stretch of coast had never been able to accommodate.

Tim Gordon, Founder and Managing Director of Gordon Corp, said: “We’re seeing larger vessels come into our waterways. State government and local council have now dredged the Broadwater to give us the necessary depth to be able to get these larger vessels in.”

Why Rod committed before the gates opened

Rod Leech first heard about The Mantaray at a Riviera function in Fort Lauderdale, asking where on the Gold Coast he might find a berth good enough to move to. He was already at Marina Mirage next door, close enough to watch the marina take shape. He committed before it opened, and moved his boat across when it did.

Rod Leech, Berth Holder at The Mantaray Marina, said: “I’m looking forward to relaxing on our boat, and the concierge bringing our food down so we can dine in our own dining room, on our own boat.”

Marina open, residences complete and precinct progressing

With the marina open, the residences complete, and the greater hospitality precinct progressing well, The Mantaray Marina | Residences is coming to life as it was envisioned.
