Experienced regional leader Danielle Carey will drive superyacht and commercial marine growth in North Queensland as the new Manager of Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef.

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) has appointed Danielle Carey as Manager of Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef. Danielle commenced in the role on Monday 12 October 2026.

Danielle brings extensive senior economic development, policy and export experience in Tropical North Queensland. She will lead AIMEX’s presence in the region, working with operators, government and industry partners to grow North Queensland’s marine economy.

A dedicated voice for two industries

The full-time role will represent both the superyacht industry, through Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef, and the commercial marine industry, through the Australian Commercial Marine Group (ACMG), across North Queensland.

Based in Cairns, Danielle will support members, attract international vessels to the Great Barrier Reef, and advocate for the refit, repair, maintenance and supply businesses that underpin regional jobs.

Deep regional and export experience

Danielle joins AIMEX from a career spent building the Tropical North Queensland economy. Her roles include:

  • Chief Executive Officer, Regional Development Australia (RDA) Tropical North, leading regional investment, infrastructure and economic development priorities.
  • Policy Officer and Economic Development, Advance Cairns, shaping advocacy and policy for the region’s key industries.
  • Export Development, Brisbane Marketing, helping Queensland businesses access and grow in international markets.

This combination of regional leadership, government relations and export expertise aligns directly with AIMEX’s mission to grow Australia’s marine industry at home and abroad.

A significant step for North Queensland

AIMEX CEO David Good said Danielle’s appointment was a significant step for the industry in North Queensland.

"Danielle is one of the most respected economic development leaders in the Far North. She understands how government, industry and investment come together, and she knows how to turn regional advantage into export growth," Mr Good said.

"Superyacht and commercial marine businesses in North Queensland now have a dedicated, full-time advocate who lives and works in the region and brings strong local networks to the role. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the world’s most sought-after cruising destinations, and Danielle will help ensure our region captures the economic benefit."

Danielle is one of the most respected economic development leaders in the Far North.

Joining at an important time

Ms Carey said she was excited to be joining AIMEX at an important time for the sector.

"The marine industry is a major employer and exporter for Cairns and the wider region. I look forward to working with members, operators and government to attract more vessels, more investment and more skilled jobs to North Queensland," Ms Carey said.
