AIMEX member SOS Marine has launched the REELSLING, a rescue system combining flotation, 50 metres of floating line and stainless-steel D-rings to help crews recover a person overboard.

SOS Marine, a global leader in maritime safety and survival equipment based in Botany, NSW, has announced the launch of the SOS Marine REELSLING (Product Code: SOS-5654). Engineered to bridge the critical gap between initial flotation and physical vessel retrieval, this multi-award-winning Australian manufacturer’s latest innovation is purpose-built for rapid response when every second matters.

The REELSLING combines 10 kg (80N+) of closed-cell flotation foam, 50 metres of high-visibility reflective floating line, and dual 950 kg load-rated stainless-steel D-rings into a single, seamless rescue system. Unlike standard flotation devices that only provide buoyancy, the REELSLING is specifically designed to become an active part of the physical recovery process, securing a robust connection between the vessel and the person in the water.

At the heart of the system’s design is the load-bearing stainless-steel D-ring configuration.

“The D-rings are one of the features that really sets REELSLING apart,” says Tim Ellis, Production Manager at SOS Marine. “We wanted a strong, easy-to-use stainless-steel component that helps the person secure themselves in the sling and gives the crew a solid point to work with during recovery.”

Engineered for demanding sea states

Designed to trail astern to help the crew establish rapid contact, the line pulls the individual safely back toward the vessel. Built to the uncompromising standards trusted by 21 international Defence Forces, the system features lifejacket-grade safety webbing, SOLAS-grade reflective tape, an integrated grab handle, and a rescue whistle. The entire kit is housed in a durable, UV-resistant PVC deployment bag.
